The Hungry Caterpillar Art Work

This week I had my new entrants create artwork based on The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

I showed them this video:

This got them thinking about caterpillars. Lots of the students had questions about caterpillars. How do they make the cocoon? Why do they make a cocoon? What do they eat? Where can you find them?

To try and answer some of their questions I showed them this video:

The students were highly engaged during the whole video.

After this, I showed them the art work they would be making.

You need:
White paper
Crayons
Lots of cut out circles
Glue
Vivids (Black pens)

1) Write your name
2) Draw a background with crayons on the white paper
3) Glue four different coloured circles so they are touching each other
4) Draw (with the vivid) different patterns on the circles - make sure one circle is the head
5) Add antennae and feet
